Traditional Chinese Medicine is an alternative medicine and an energy healing approach to health care. Chinese Medicine is concerned with changes of the state of Chi (Chee or Qi), dynamic and psychic factors, and functions rather than substance. The observations of Chinese doctors are based on a person’s state of Chi or energy, mind, bodily functions, and change in those functions without reference to labels of diseases, virus, and bacteria or to the organs, nerves, or bloodstream. The observations include the state of the emotions and the spirit - the whole human being. Chi or Qi is often translated as energy, however it is much more than that. Chi includes energy, information, frequency and vibrations.
Chinese Medicine grew out of a different way of thinking than Western Medicine and it’s source is a different consciousness. The source of Chinese Medicine is the Tao and Taoism. In Eastern consciousness, both the known and the unknown are a reality The Eastern consciousness moves toward a consciousness of meditation, revelation and observation. It echoes quantum physics, which is a “new paradigm – a unifying worldview that will integrate mind and spirit into science” (see Goswami, Ph.D.). Quantum physics uses an alternative to the philosophy of material realism. Mind and matter are integrally part of one reality, but a reality that is not based on matter, but rather consciousness. Quantum physic and Quantum medicine integrate science and spirituality, which embraces the whole human being. The centerpiece of this new science and medicine paradigm is the recognition that modern science that is, Quantum physics and Quantum medicine validates an ancient concept – the idea that consciousness, not matter, is the ground of all being.
Chinese Medicine is the results of a continuance on the same path of consciousness with refined ancient traditions. To understand any principal one must go to the source, and the source of Traditional Chinese Medicine is Taoism (pronounced Daoism). Traditional Chinese Medicine originates with the Taoist hermits or sages in ancient China. These hermits lived so long; the people began to think of them as “immortal”. They lived detached from the rest of the population, but within the community and practiced an ancient tradition filled with mysterious wonder and poetic charm, called Taoism.
THE TAO
From the Tao all the myriad objects derive their being, their illusory separateness being wrought by the interplay of Yin and Yang. The Tao is unknowable, vast, and eternal. It is the mother of the cosmos, an undifferentiated void, the container, the sustainer and the pure spirit permeating all things in the universe. As the goal of existence, it is the Way of Heaven, of earth, of man. No being, it is the source of Being. “Nothingness” is the name for it prior to the universe’s birth. “Being” is the name for it as the Mother of the Myriad Objects. Therefore, when you seek to comprehend its mystery, it is seen as an unending void; when you seek to behold its content, you see that it is being. When you have mastered the mysteries Taoism you can Ride the Dragon. (See Taoism – The Road to Immortality
John Blofeld)
TAOISM
Riding the Dragon was considered to be results of the life journey, an enlighten state, a spiritual and virtuous lifestyle whereby humans could transform and ascend from mortal state to an immortal state. Taoism is a treasure house of the ancient wisdom of the natural law, of oneness with the universe, exalted with mysticism and is the foundation of Chinese Medicine. Taoism is a philosophy that combines elements of folklore, art, sciences, cosmology, meditation, poetry, quietude, universal governing laws and an integral way living and of life. It is the cornerstone of Chinese Medicine and the source of the theories of Yin and Yang, The Three Treasures, the Five Elements and the rudimentary principle of Chinese consciousness, Chinese thinking and Chinese Medicine. Sages studied and practiced the traditions of Taoism.
Taoist mastered principles and practices, and handed them down through a family legacy from father to son, from generation to generation. It is this tradition that evolved into Chinese medicine over the centuries and Traditional Chinese Medicine today. Chinese Medicine was only one of many cultivated arts acquired by the ancient Taoists. Besides mastering Chinese Medicine, their studies also include subjects such as Astrology, Geomancy, physiognomy, palmistry, I Ching, Internal Alchemy, Martial Arts, Tai Chi, Life Charting as well as a host of other arts to numerous to mention here. A quote from the Yellow Emperor’s Classics illustrates this:
"Yin/Yang is the Way of heaven and earth,
The fundamental principle of the myriad things,
The father and mother of change and transformation,
The root of inception and destruction."
- Su Wen, Yellow Emperor’s Classics
